Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering. The School of Architecture and Built Environment is one of four Schools forming the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is based in the fantastic new Springfield Campus in Wolverhampton. With excellent industrial links, active research programmes and professionally accredited courses, the School is committed to further growing its existing research and consultancy provision. The Civil Engineering Department is experiencing rapid growth and plans are in place to develop new apprenticeship and Masters Courses. You will be expected to be involved in the development and delivery of Civil Engineering related subjects with a special focus on Structural Engineering. You are also expected to contribute to the delivery of other subjects including Mathematics, Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering and Land Surveying. Candidates from other Civil Engineering backgrounds are also welcomed.

The School of Architecture and the Built Environment is an active and thriving subject area within the Faculty with good industrial links, active research outputs and professionally accredited programmes delivered in the UK and overseas. The School is committed to growing its academic provision which centres on Architecture, Construction, the Environment and Civil Engineering. This post is a reflection of that growth agenda. The post has four key performance areas; teaching, research, new course development and external income activities. Teaching will involve lecturing Civil Engineering related modules on the undergraduate and post graduate courses. The generation of research outputs is expected to build upon the successes the School have had in previous research submissions and activities, as well as contributing to recruitment, marketing, transnational education and business activities within the School.

You must have a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering related areas or should be nearing completion. Applicants with extensive experience in a relevant Civil Engineering subject area are also invited to apply. The University of Wolverhampton operates a widening participation policy and as such you should be able to demonstrate that you can develop and maintain empathy and a good rapport with students. A proven familiarity with recent developments in one of the areas within Civil Engineering, as well as the ability to work flexibly in a team environment are essential qualities, together with relevant professional body qualifications. A well-established research record would be a distinct advantage, as would experience of new modules development as the School implements its expansion plans.

For informal discussions regarding the post, contact the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr Alaa Hamood ([email protected]), or the Head of School, Dr Paul Hampton ([email protected]).
