About the role

The Senior Engineer role sits within the Delivery & Operations pilar within DDaT. As a Senior Engineer, you will be working in 2nd and 3rd line support, resolving problems, documenting root causes, and improving service levels, maintaining current systems, upgrades, and changes.

About you

As a Senior Network Engineer, it is expected that you will have good demonstrable skills in configuring and supporting varied network technologies typically found in a campus environment. This would include general network design & implementation, IP address planning and management, DNS and DHCP, routing and switching, wireless networking, firewall configuration, server load balancing, Network Access Control (NAC), remote access and VPNs, network monitoring, virtualisation and cloud systems.

Understanding of various network technologies is required including a deep understanding of the physical and logical layers of the network stack as well as network protocols used across that stack such as IPSEC, ARP, SSH, VRRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS, Radius and others. Knowledge of Linux systems and familiarity with open source methodologies also essential. Knowledge of technologies such as IPv6, Evpn, VXLAN and scripting languages such as python, PHP and Perl highly desirable.

A variety of technologies are in use at the University and it is expected you ill have appropriate knowledge of at least one of Cisco, Aruba/HPE or Juniper. Ideally knowledge of other providers too such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, VMware, Bluecat, Clearpass and Debian Linux. The ability to diagnose wired & wireless network related issues is essential, and knowledge of cloud based network deployments & management as well as network automation tools would be advantageous.
