The opportunity

The Senior Cyber Security SOC analyst will contribute to the operation, development, and improvement of the IT Security standards, procedures, and policies that comprise the University Information Security Management Systems and IT Security Policy Framework.

To operate, maintain and assess security enforcing systems across the University IT Services environment. This includes Security-related service management processes and cybersecurity incident management functions (prevention, detection, response).

The post holder will provide specialist information and cyber security expertise to defend the University’s digital services from cyber-attacks. Reporting to the Cyber Security Manager, you will primarily be working alongside technical colleagues in the Digital & Technology group, and you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of SOC, SIEM, XDR & EDR, log analysis and technical management of information and cyber security issues within the University. The role requires working with third-party vendors that supply services to UAL.


About you

Your profile will include:

Knowledge and experience with information and cyber security within a large organisation providing support and delivery of SOC
Knowledge and experience of SIEM tools (Splunk, Qradar OR Logrhythm and others)
Oversees the remediation of vulnerabilities raised by MSSP penetration tests, producing supporting documentation (risk ratings and updating risk register)
Oversee the organisation’s SIEM, collaborating with the MSSP to create use cases and runbooks and monitor daily alerts.
Oversee the management of patching, vulnerability analysis and penetration testing of University IT systems, including assisting with the development and maturity of the programme, thus ensuring threats to the University’s systems and data are identified, remediated, or mitigated.

Design, implement, and support technical security controls to defend University IT systems (both internally and cloud-hosted) against security threats and to address specific security challenges across the University.
Assess security infrastructure, network, and systems design to evaluate and identify security risks, threats and vulnerabilities of networks, systems, applications, and new technology initiatives and ensure overall system/network security. Conduct assessments of existing and new software deployments whilst continuously looking at ways to mature our processes and improve the services.

Experience with security tooling, particularly within a mixed Windows, Linux, Mac, and Cloud environment
Knowledge and experience with XDR, EDR, email & remote access security, content filtering (web/email), Cloud Security (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)
Knowledge and experience with anomaly detection, O365, Azure. MS Intune, Identity Management
Knowledge and experience with review and analysis of firewalls, management of Cisco Umbrella, network traffic analysis, vulnerability management and scanning, attack methods and infection vectors, risk assessments, and penetration testing.
