Salary: Grade 8 (£45,585 – £54,395 p.a. depending on experience)
Are you a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist, clinical or counselling psychologist with experience in counselling and/or psychotherapy? Do you have an understanding of the needs and priorities of counselling and wellbeing services in Higher Educational settings? Would you like to provide professional leadership to the Student Counselling and Wellbeing Team?

As part of the Directorate of Student Experience and Support, Student Counselling and Wellbeing (SCW) provides a wide range of excellent and innovative support to help students manage psychological, emotional and mental health difficulties whilst at University. SCW offers a single point of access for students to mental health, counselling and wellbeing services. SCW supports the University by providing advice and consultation on student mental health and wellbeing and expertise in the management of clinical risk. Training provisions and reflective practice groups support staff in student support roles throughout the University.
The Student Counselling and Wellbeing team is developing following investment. Counselling is a valued provision within the University and the SCW Service, complementing the mental health and wellbeing service provisions. Our teams coordinate closely together to efficiently and effectively meet student and University needs.
Three Senior Counsellors report into the Head of Student Support. Two Senior Counsellors, including this role, act as Managerial and Operational leads for the Counselling Team, developing practice and policy for Counselling. The Managerial and Operational leads work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure appropriate resource allocation across the Student Counselling and Wellbeing Service.
This post offers an exciting leadership opportunity to someone who wishes to co-lead a large counselling team, honouring the values and practices of counselling whilst also recognising areas of overlap with wellbeing provision and working constructively with colleagues to best meet evolving student needs.
Please note you must be fully accredited by BACP, UKCP or BABCP. The post-holder will be the named clinical lead for counselling for BACP accreditation purposes. Clinical or counselling psychologists must have achieved chartered status with BPS and be registered with HCPC.
