The University of Liverpool wishes to recruit a full-time Poultry Research Unit Manager/ NACWO to work with academic and technical staff across the Universitys Poultry Research Unit, based on the Leahurst Campus.

The role will be responsible for the operational management of the poultry research facility on the Leahurst Campus.

The Institute serves a wide range of research groups and teaching across several sites on the University central campus, Leahurst campus and off-site.

  • Within the Institute includes the following departments:
  • Clinical Infection, Microbiology and Immunology
  • Evolution, Ecology and Behaviour
  • Infection Biology and Microbiomes
  • Livestock and One Health
  • Veterinary Anatomy Physiology and Pathology
  • Small Animal Clinical Science
  • Equine Clinical Science

Main purpose of the job:

You will mainly be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of the University¿s Poultry Research Unit, both in terms of maintaining animal husbandry and supporting the operational needs of a multitude of research projects. You will be an active PIL Holder and hold the position of Named Animal Welfare Care Officer (NACWO).

You will ensure that the requirements of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 are met and that the highest standards of animal welfare, in accordance with Home Office licence conditions and University policy, are maintained at all times within the facility. You will take responsibility for operational management and delivery of training, health and safety, facility maintenance, biosecurity, and security of the facility. You will also support research across other animal facilities based at Leahurst campus.

You will have Institute of Animal Technology qualification level 3 or above and NQF level 5 and/or equivalent experience of working in a BSU facility in a similar post at an equivalent level. You also should have current, active PIL or PILAB certificate and willingness to complete the poultry module.

The post is available on a permanent basis.
