Are you an experienced Security Manager, looking for a new challenge within a high performing team where your skills and expertise can be used and developed?

We are seeking a Security Manager to lead the management and development of the Security Service.  The friendly team is vital in keeping students, staff, visitors and our buildings safe and providing a welcoming and supportive environment. There is always something new happening at the University, and the role is never dull.

You will be key in the development and implementation of a security strategy to establish a safe and secure environment in which the university community can thrive. This includes the main city centre campus as well as other University sites within a 5-mile radius.

Experienced in security management at a senior level within a relevant, complex organisation you will demonstrate the ability to work both at strategic and operational levels using your knowledge of current security related legislation and practice. You will provide intelligence–led information on risks and threats to aid decision-making.

Essential skills include leadership and teambuilding and as you will be working with colleagues across the University you will have effective communication and interpersonal skills. A good understanding of issues facing security in higher education will be expected.

A relevant professional qualification or knowledge gained via substantial vocational experience in security leadership is essential. Specialist knowledge of a range of security systems such as CCTV, communication, intruder alarms along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft word/excel/PowerPoint/outlook and databases. Knowledge of Health, Safety and Security legislation and experience of risk management is essential. As the Departmental Safety Co-ordinator a NEBOSH Health and Safety qualification or willingness to achieve on appointment is also a requirement.

A current full driving licence (manual transmission) is essential as you will be driving University of Plymouth vehicles. This role is also subject to health surveillance with our Occupational Health team.

This is a full-time, permanent position and whilst you will generally work a 37-hour week, Monday to Friday, you will be required to undertake duties outside these times and be flexible to meet the demands of the role. You must be able to attend campus at times which include evenings and weekends, to deal with emergencies or provide cover. As the security team works 24/7 you will need to work some out of hours shifts to understand requirements and to manage service performance.

Due to the nature of the work, this role is based on campus. There can be a requirement in certain instances to attend work to resolve/manage issues; therefore, the post holder must live within reasonable travelling distance of the University.

The appointment will require an enhanced DBS check, in line with CSAS accreditation.
