In 2013, Europe's top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge.

As part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic cancer biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 600 researchers and support staff with 22 research groups and associated core facilities in a state-of-the-art research facility.

We are now recruiting a Security Guard to help us maintain our high-quality security service across the Institute.

As one of 8 Security Guards working alternating shift patterns covering 365 days per year with contractual hours of 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm & 11pm to 7am Monday to Friday, and 7am to 7pm, 7pm to 7am Saturday & Sunday.

The role holder will:

- Assist the Property Services team in all functions when/where necessary.

- Assist in overseeing the Department's security service, including, but not limited to, compliance assurance, fire safety officer responsibilities, emergency planning and associated security functions such as CCTV monitoring and Access Control.

- Interact with all staff and visitors to provide a friendly, helpful, and professional service to a wide range of people.

- Carry out regular security patrols of main institute building, grounds and energy centre.

- Carry out reception duties as and when required.

The successful candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, have attention to detail, be able to use their own initiative and have strong oral and written communication skills. The candidate will be proficient in MS Office packages and be up to date with the latest security techniques and health & safety legislation. 

You must hold a valid SIA license, a 5-year checkable work history, a smart and professional appearance, and a dedication to providing a high-quality customer service. You will be required to cover for annual leave and other absences within the team and to respond to out-of-hours call outs in the event of emergencies so a flexible approach to working hours is essential.
