The School of Physics is a large constituent School of the University of Bristol and is home to approximately 150 staff, 160 postgraduate students and 600 undergraduate students. The technical services within the School support research across 6 research themes (Astrophysics; Particle Physics; Theoretical Physics; Quantum Engineering Technologies; Quantum and Soft Matter; and Materials and Devices) and education, predominantly within our multimillion pound suite of teaching laboratories.
The School Technical Manager will provide high quality and inspiring leadership of technical services. You will line manage a team of technical managers and will be responsible for the successful delivery of efficient and effective technical services and for providing an outstanding experience to our students. You will act as School Safety Advisor and ensure that all operations within the School are conducted safely.
- Lead and direct technical services for the School;
- Shape technical service provision to meet current and future operational needs;
- Be accountable for operational safety;
- Provide leadership, direction and guidance to your team of supervisors;
- Manage delegated budgets;
- Manage large and specialist purchases and lead on infrastructure projects.
- You are an engaging, motivating and inspiring leader;
- You have experience in effective leadership of a significant technical team;
- You have experience of leading operational safety;
- You have excellent IT, communication and organisational skills;
- You are committed to providing a quality technical service to the School of Physics.
