Job Purpose: 

The Retail Catering Manager will lead the day-to-day management of the front of house catering team and be responsible for the commercial performance of cafes and takeaway outlets across the University of Glasgow. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance the catering offer, drive profitability and offer an unrivalled customer experience.

The post holder will report to the Operations Manager and will be expected to work to set KPI’s and financial targets to meet retail service business objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

Deliver an unrivalled customer experience across the cafes and takeaway outlets at the University of Glasgow.

Develop new ideas and concepts aimed at delivering commercial success and profitability.

Confidently and competently develop effective centralised processes, through the use of catering management software, EPOS systems and SOP’s.

Manage the front of house team and ensure processes in relation to performance management, training, recruitment and overall service are effectively adhered to.

Utilise effective leadership styles and coaching to get the best performance from the front of house catering team.

Ensure positive people resolutions and create opportunities for the development of positive relationship building within the department and wider team – fostering a ‘one team’ culture.

Work closely with key colleagues to ensure competence and compliance with legislative requirements in relation to food safety, allergens, hygiene and health and safety.

Work to set targets and KPI’s to deliver high customer satisfaction and commercial results.

Focus on commercial improvements, create operational efficiencies and drive productivity within the team.

Inspire and nurture the team, empowering individuals to take responsibility for their development and personal impact on the service.

Work collaboratively to create a positive working relationships and other Mangers within UoG Commercial Ltd as well as Trade Union colleagues and key University and external stakeholders.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience 

Knowledge/Qualifications 

Essential: 

A1 HND in Catering, Hospitality or Business Management/related discipline, experience in a similar role or an ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post, having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression.

A2 Comprehensive knowledge of commercial catering/retail, as well as the fundamentals of effective business management, including a high level of competency and working knowledge of various systems, software and the best practices, to successfully deliver against operational requirements.

A3 Minimum of Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification.

Desirable: 

B1 Personal Licence holder

Experience 

Essential: 

E1 Proven experience in a commercial catering business environment.

E2 Experience of dealing with a variety of key stakeholders both internally and externally.

E3 Experience of budget management, stock control and working to set KPI’s.

Desirable: 

F1 Previous working knowledge of Catering Management Software, such as Saffron, and an understanding of EPOS systems and customer facing technology.

Terms & Conditions

Salary: £32,000 - £36,000 per annum (based on skills and experience).

This full-time role has a working pattern of 37.5 hours p/w. Flexibility will be required (weekend and public holiday working during peak periods) to support operational business needs. This will be achieved by mutual (and prior) agreement.
