The Opportunity:

Pilizota lab at the Engineering Biology Centre, School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh seeks a highly motivated Research Technician to support the development of novel biosensors. The technology is based on whole-cell biosensors and the post holder will assist in strain development and data collection using the novel technology. The post holder will have an opportunity to join an interdisciplinary group composed of PhD students and PDRAs with backgrounds in physics, engineering, biology, biotechnology and similar fields, and should enjoy the challenge and opportunity of working in such a diverse group. The post-holder will work primarily with Prof Teuta Pilizota and her team, but also with our collaborators at the University of California Berkley as well as researchers at the Engineering Biology Center (https://www.ed.ac.uk/biology/centre-engineering-biology) at the University of Edinburgh, UK, which offers an exciting and collaborative research environment. Excellent facilities are available including computational biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry and biophysics, contemporary ‘omics technologies, stem cell biology and DNA synthesis.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience in molecular microbiology (especially cloning techniques)
  • Experience working with RAs and COSHH forms
  • Experience in basic microscopy is desired
  • Motivation and desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment
