Offer Description

Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century.

To date there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.

The UK DRI at Imperial brings together researchers from diverse backgrounds with fresh perspectives, drawing on the university’s unique strengths, resources and focus on science, engineering, medicine and business. The team recognises that the challenges of dementia demand new concepts, new approaches and a diverse range of new research tools and directions. Their holistic approach views the ageing brain in the context of the ageing body, not in isolation.

The role will offer a unique opportunity to contribute to a project that is both highly technical and positive in impact, working alongside dedicated software developers, data scientists, design engineers, clinical researchers, and healthcare professionals.  You will have an influential role in the planning, deployment, and operation of the NHS extension of Minder. This is excellent opportunity, for the right candidate(s), to develop a career within the emerging field of IoT and AI enabled smart homes and dementia care within a rich learning environment and a supportive team.

All research activity will be carried out in accordance with good clinical practice guidelines (GCP) and includes participant recruitment, enrolment, and smart home installations, monitoring of health alerts as well as biomarker sample collections, scheduling and supporting

participants during point assessments, and carrying out participant well-being calls. The post holder is expected to work autonomously travelling to our participants’ homes within North-West London (NWL) (predominantly Westminster, North Kensington, and Hammersmith & Fulham) for data collection / research visits.

This position is within the UK DRI Care Research and Technology Centre (CR&T) at Imperial College London, which has been established to address a medical research area of the highest importance and future impact as one of seven new national centres of excellence embedded in major UK universities. We are looking for a suitably qualified candidate, regardless of background, to become a valued member of a highly capable team based at a prestigious research institution. Imperial College provides enthusiastic and curious individuals with a broad range of employee benefits, including extensive opportunities for personal development.

Essential requirements

To perform the role effectively, you will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a confident communicator and ideally have knowledge of clinical research within a governance and ethical framework. Moreover, the post holder will be well organised with a strong desire to deliver excellent work and you will act as an ambassador for the UK DRI Care Research and Technology Centre.
