This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Are you looking to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities? Do you have an interest in developing and delivering high value and high-quality funding applications? Are you confident and outgoing, and keen to help progress interdisciplinary health research and innovation opportunities through building excellent working relationships with academics, health and care service providers, and colleagues in industry?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 135 universities in the world. We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to support the development of research and innovation funding applications within the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH), working closely with our community of researchers and health and care partners to maximise external income and research impact.

The Faculty brings together experts in the Schools of Medicine , Healthcare , Dentistry and Psychology and has an extensive portfolio of basic and applied health research. We host several unique, specialist facilities, and we are at the forefront of academic research in areas such as medical technologies, biomedical research, health informatics, clinical trials, and global health. Researchers in the Faculty also collaborate with colleagues in other Faculties such as Engineering and Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and Biological Sciences, and in other interdisciplinary areas such as food, water, culture, and data analytics. We have a strong track record of working with industry, business and Government, and have a range of important health-related partnerships regionally, nationally and internationally.

As Research & Innovation Development Officer, you will develop research and innovation opportunities and work closely with our external strategic partners (including in the NHS, industry and third sector) to grow research and innovation within FMH. You will provide support across a range of funding schemes and funders, including providing Fellowships support for our early career researchers, and contributing to larger strategic research initiatives. You will help to maximise research impact and drive the growth of external income through providing intelligence, in-depth knowledge and support for key funding applications.

You will need to quickly establish a Faculty-wide profile, forging strong links with key academics and professional service colleagues, and building networks across the Faculty, University and externally. You will work in partnership with other Research and Innovation Development professionals within the Research and Innovation Service to ensure that the highest quality proposals are developed, providing a coordinated service across a full range of research, innovation and industry engagement activities. You will need to work effectively as part of multiple dynamic teams that can operate effectively in a complex and changing environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to support performance-based partnerships, working closely with academic teams to develop successful external funding applications. You will provide support across the full range of research funders (including the UK Research Councils, NIHR, charities, international funders and institutionally held Impact Acceleration Accounts).

What we offer in return
