About the role

This is a new post jointly funded by NIHR Research Support Service East Midlands (RSS) and the Leicester Real World Evidence Unit (LRWE) within the Leicester Diabetes Research Centre.

As a member of the NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) you will provide expert specialist methodological advice and analytic support to research teams across England using the service. As well as assisting researchers to develop high-quality applications to national funding competitions for health and social care research, you will have opportunities to collaborate in funded studies, drawing on your professional knowledge and successful track record in securing research funding. As a member of the LRWE, you will undertake statistical analysis of cardiometabolic real-world data from classical observational studies and from electronic health records (e.g. UK Biobank, the Clinical Practice Research Datalink, and Hospital Episodes Statistics). You will also provide statistical expertise for advanced analysis of longitudinal and survival data, in preparation of scientific papers for publication.

The NIHR RSS is one of eight hubs operating nationally and comprises of 22 Partners including three Clinical Trial Units within the East Midlands. Our aim is to develop capacity in areas of current and future need, to ensure that research design and methodology keep up with new technologies and ways of conducting research. The Leicester Diabetes Research Centre is internationally recognised for its research in diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The post provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious statistician to develop a strong career in epidemiology and cardiometabolic medicine.


About you
To be the ideal candidate for this role you will have obtained a PhD or other postgraduate qualification Medical statistics/epidemiology or other relevant discipline. You will also have a good level of understanding and significant experience of the role of epidemiological/statistical methods in health and social care research, with wide-ranging knowledge of alternative data collection approaches.
 
We are looking for someone with a high level of proficiency in English, in order to be able to undertake research, teaching and administrative activities and to communicate effectively with staff and students. Knowledge of statistical programming and data management would also be an essential skill for this role.
