Join us as a Researcher, leading our Evidence Synthesis team and be part of #TeamSalford, and one of the UK’s fastest-growing universities. 

We are working collaboratively with the PenARC Evidence Synthesis Team, an expert group based at the University of Exeter on a project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme.

The project will identify cost effective education and information interventions for people living with early chronic kidney disease (CKD), including consultation with people managing CKD, their carers and health professionals to expose current practice and co-create research priorities. 

The opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Research Fellow with expertise in systematic reviews to join and lead our team of academics undertaking a mixed methods evidence synthesis, for a fixed term project ending in August 2025.

You will lead the synthesis of both qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform the development and implementation of health policy, as well as producing high-quality publications, and gaining significant knowledge, guidance and recognition working alongside leaders in the evidence synthesis field.  You will also gain further experience, leading a Study Within a Review (SWAR).

This leadership post is based at the University of Salford and also provides an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively with the PenARC Evidence Synthesis Team at the University of Exeter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of academics to undertake a mixed methods synthesis. 
  • Lead the design and conduct of systematic reviews to high (publishable) standards and agreed deadlines, to support national health policy development and evaluation, working closely with institutions in Salford and the Evidence Review Facility, within Exeter. 
  • Manage the overall review process, acting as lead and at times second reviewer, working closely with service topic/content experts (including patients and members of the public), policy customers, and methods experts where necessary. 
  • Write up the systematic reviews clearly for a variety of audiences – Department of Health and Social Care, policy makers, NHS, academic (i.e. journal articles), and the general public. 
  • Present the findings of the reviews, or the required innovations in review methods to relevant audiences such as academic conferences and lead and project manage stakeholder consultation elements. 
  • Coach and support other team members and colleagues in developing their review and research techniques.
