Description of the offer :

The main role of this position is to conduct experimental research on spin dynamics in novel magnetic nanostructures. We will characterise the spectral response of such magnets, both uniform and propagating spin-wave modes. The researcher on this post will perform cutting edge microwave measurements with local experts and analyse the obtained data to interpret underlying mechanisms. This post is funded by a collaboration programme with a group of Prof. Will Branford and Dr Jack Gartside where another postdoctoral researcher has been placed for our joint work. While novel functionality such as spectral control and non-reciprocilty controlled by dipole magnetic interaction would be a prime aim, the resultant effect could be considered as a building block of neuromorphic computing that both groups are specialised at (see Lee et al., Nat. Mater (2024) and Gartside et al., Nat. Nano. (2022).) The researcher is highly encouraged to present their own work in international/domestic conferences. We expect a team play with other group members who work on similar research topics. As a senior researcher, we also expect wider contribution to any activities across the whole research group where appropriate and possible. Responsibilities include good management of their own research, good maintenance of research facilities they used as a main user and good communication with their line manager.
