The Opportunity:

You will work closely with the Co-Investigators on the project Intersectional Spaces of Participation: Inclusive, Resilient, Embedded (INSPIRE) to carry out the objectives of Work Package 2: Political Economy of Public Participation.  The project aims to map and analyse the participation industry in Europe to assess its capacity for intersectional equality; to analyse how socioeconomic conditions shape citizen participation and affect inclusiveness; and, to analyse how citizen participation shapes socioeconomic conditions through participatory decision-making.  Occasional travel will be required. 

This post is part time for 24.5 hours per week, and fixed term for a period of 21 months for dates between 1 September 2024 and 31 March 2027. 

We are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD (awarded or near completion) in social sciences or humanities (or considerable equivalent training or experience)
  • Experience conducting social science research, and carrying out literature reviews
  • Expertise in participatory and deliberative democracy
  • Knowledge in political economy, intersectionality and the capabilities approach
