At Southampton, you will join an internationally renowned and multi-disciplinary team led by Professor Gopal Ramchurn. You will be based in the Agents, Interaction, and Complexity Research group, which is home to Responsible AI UK (rai.ac.uk) a £31M strategic investment by UKRI, and part of the School of Electronics and Computer Science.
The role will involve a core focus on AI research (machine learning, multi-agent systems, causal AI, optimisation), along with participation in a range of multidisciplinary research projects that will not only include developing AI systems for good purposes/uses, but moving beyond that by addressing the sustainability of developing and using AI systems in and of themselves.
The multidisciplinary research will be focused on addressing the whole sociotechnical system of AI. It will involve responsible design, development and deployment of AI techniques which will be compatible with sustaining environmental resources for current and future generations; economic models for societies; and societal values that are fundamental to a given society. Some potential applications are healthcare, transportation, defence and security, and creative industries among others.
You will work as part of or lead multi-disciplinary teams from across the RAI UK programme.
To be successful you will have:
- PhD in a field related to one of the following: Deep learning, Explainable AI, Causal reasoning.
- A strong publication record in AI venues (NeurIPS, AAMAS, ECAI, ICML, IJCAI, AAAI, Journal of Machine Learning Research).
- Demonstrate experience or interest in interdisciplinary research, going beyond standard engineering and computer science fields.
- Demonstrable ability to present work clearly both in written form and orally.
