The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively make a real difference.
The role
We would like to appoint a Research Fellow to work on mesoscale computational modelling of materials microstructure evolutions for hydrogen technologies. The Post Doctoral Research Fellow (PDRA) will have opportunity to work with the R&D team at Ceres Power (a leading developer of clean energy technology based on solid oxide cells for energy generation and hydrogen production, with over 500 employees), and collaborate with researchers at Imperial College London.
The post will be based within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) at the University of Surrey, and will have opportunity to interact with a vibrant Sustainable Energy and Materials research team with 15 academics and more than 50 PhD and postdoc researchers. You will also be part of the multidisciplinary Institute for Sustainability and Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence, and will have opportunities to learn multiscale materials modelling from Prof Qiong Cai's group and machine learning methods from Dr Michael Short's group.
The University of Surrey was awarded The University of The Year for Graduate Employment. You will benefit from the excellent support and training opportunities for career development, including various be-spoke training workshops and one-to-one mentoring scheme.
About you
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with strong research experience in using mesoscale computational methods (e.g., phase-field theory, finite volume, finite element, lattice Boltzmann) for modelling materials. In particular, the candidate must have evident experience in developing computational models and writing their own computer codes. Experience or knowledge in electrochemical energy technologies (fuel cells, electrolysers, batteries) is desirable but not essential.
Candidates must hold (or be close to completion of) a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Civil Engineering or other relevant major degrees at the time of application.
How to apply
Candidates should apply online, carefully answer all the application form questions, and attach a curriculum vitae (with details on education, research experiences, successes, and the relevant publications to date).
Prospective applicants can contact Prof Qiong Cai ([email protected] ), or Dr Michael Short ([email protected] ), if you need any specific further information on the post.
