About the Woolf Institute

We are an independent charity affiliated with the University of Cambridge through our partnerships with the Cambridge Theological Federation, St Edmund’s College, and the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. We seek to build understanding and trust between Jews, Muslims, and Christians, and between religious groups and wider society, through research, education, and public engagement. We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2023.

Purpose of the role

As Research Fellow, you will play a key role in the Institute through an important new research and engagement project studying the impact of current events on Muslim-Jewish relations in the UK, with the aim of identifying and highlighting case studies of successful continued engagement and providing guidance for productive ways forward in times of crises. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated scholar with excellent public communication skills to join a thriving team and contribute to positive interfaith relations in the UK.

Key responsibilities

The Research Fellow will be assigned to the new Woolf Institute project, ‘How to Continue Talking’. The Research Fellow’s work on the project will include qualitative research with interfaith organisations and initiatives around the UK and scholarly publication of case study findings, alongside planning and oversight of public engagement events and the development of public engagement resources arising from the findings.

Working collaboratively and collegially is central to the ethos of the Woolf Institute. The Research Fellow will work on-site, attend and contribute to Woolf events, and contribute to an ethos of excellent communication and collaboration with Research and Public Engagement colleagues.

The post will begin on a date to be negotiated June-August 2024.

How to apply

Please send a covering letter and CV to [email protected] by the closing date of 19 March. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 26-27 March.
