This is an exciting role which has supports Lancaster’s highly successful activities in generating external impact from its research. The Research Commercialisation Manager will have a key role in the support and coordination of activities across the University in the commercial evaluation of Intellectual Property (IP) and the implementation of projects to deliver impact from its use, which has seen significant growth over the last 5 years. You will provide advice to researchers, professional Research Development and Knowledge Exchange (KE) staff and Senior University Leadership to determine the most appropriate routes for research commercialisation and impact.

The Research Commercialisation Manager will develop networks with investors, industry and regional and national stakeholders to further establish Lancaster’s reputation as a university whose research outputs positively impact society and the economy. We are looking for an individual with experience of identifying, evaluating and exploiting Intellectual Property and other research outcomes within Higher Education or the Public Sector. Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of developing and exploiting IP, particularly with SME partners, and the potential “routes to market” and use of different funding sources in doing this is also essential.

You will play a key role in working with and advising wider KE colleagues across campus to identify and evaluate different potential routes to application of research outcomes using a variety of different funding mechanisms. This role would suit an excellent communicator who can identify and either advise on or develop and then implement projects to evaluate and realise commercialisation and other impact creating opportunities.

We are looking to appoint an individual with a track record of enabling research commercialisation pathways, experience of managing multiple market appraisal and/or licensee search projects and a familiarity with processes involved in raising investment in spin out companies. You will lead a team to explore commercialisation as a route to impact within multiple disciplines across the University including Science and Technology, Health, Arts and Social Sciences and Leadership and Management.

Established external networks and knowledge of government policy and funding relating to University Research Commercialisation would be desirable.

The role sits within Research and Enterprise Services (RES). You should contact Jess Wenmouth, Head of Research Commercialisation ([email protected] ), for any questions or informal discussions regarding the role.

Our multi-faith Chaplaincy Centre is a welcoming place for people of all faiths and none. It includes facilities for the Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islam and Jewish faiths and also a Muslim Prayer Room.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.

Although this position is designed as full-time role, we are willing to discuss reduced FTE, job sharing and flexible working. We will also encourage flexible and elements of remote working given the nature of the role, learning from our experience during the pandemic in ensuring the role holder is well supported in doing so.
