The role
The University of Bristol is seeking a Research Associate with experience in the culture of pluripotent stem cells and/or cerebral organoids to develop and apply new biotechnologies for brain organoid engineering. This project is one part of a broad, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research programme led by Dr James Armstrong, who is leveraging recent innovations in bioengineering to advance the state-of-the-art in stem-cell-derived organoid modelling. The research associate will be a key member of a vibrant new research group with a diversity of expertise across disciplines, such as pluripotent stem cell culture, organoid culture, tissue engineering, ultrasonic manipulation, biomaterial engineering, bioimaging, and neuroscience.
What will you be doing?
- Develop and apply new biomaterial strategies for guiding the culture of brain organoids
- Employ state-of-the-art characterization tools to analyze biomaterials and organoids
- Analyze, interpret, and troubleshoot empirical datasets
- Establish robust operating protocols for design, characterization, and analysis
- Aid research group and technicians in managing the laboratory space and facilities
- Contribute positively to equality, diversity, and inclusion within the research group
- Contribute positively to mental health and wellbeing within the research group
- Teaching and supporting junior scientists in the laboratory
- Co-supervision of BSc and MSc student projects
You should apply if
- You have experience in pluripotent stem cell culture (iPSC or ESC) and/or brain organoid culture
- You have experience in empirical data collection, data analysis and troubleshooting
- You have enthusiasm for the application of bioengineering methods in organoid culture
- You have a PhD in a relevant field
- You are capable of positively contributing to a collaborative research environment in a manner that adheres to the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion
- You are capable of effectively communicating complex scientific ideas across different academic disciplines, in a range of scenarios
