The role
Applications are invited for the role of Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in Polymer Engineering to explore the development of novel polymer blends suitable for application as semi- or fully-reinforced composite structures within the £3.5M “Designer Liner 2” programme. This research is funded by The Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat), to fundamentally redesign the polymeric linings for the next generation of water distribution pipes.
This role sits within the Bristol Composites Institute (BCI) which is a University of Bristol Specialist Research Institute. The Institute has 200+ members and brings together world-leading academics and partners to deliver skills training, research and technology development.
What will you be doing?
As a member of our team, you will work with other researchers to develop, formulate, deploy, and characterise the properties at every length scale from the molecules of the polymer matrix to the lay-up of final components, using new constituents and new architectures.
You should apply if
- You are a highly creative, collegiate, and adaptable experimental scientist/engineer.
- You have completed or are working towards a PhD/EngD in Polymer Chemistry/Polymer Engineering/Materials Science (or closely related discipline).
- You have an understanding of physico-mechanical testing (or willingness to develop skills in mechanical testing of composites).
- You have the ability to contribute ideas for projects delivering industrial or academic impact.
