We are looking for a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre in the Department of Computer Science and Technology.
The Research Associate/Senior Research Associate will play a pivotal role in conducting and leading research projects focused on computing education within the school system in the UK and beyond. The person we are looking for will already have published in the field of computing education research and be able to work independently on their own research, which will be aligned to one or more of the research areas of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre. They will also be able to lead on at least one of the core longitudinal research projects being conducted by the research centre, and support other research projects as needed. Over time, the candidate would also be able to represent the research centre externally.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead at least one core research project within the research centre, overseeing all aspects of project design, implementation, and dissemination.
Design and conduct research studies to investigate various aspects of computing education in schools.
Mentor and supervise students and junior researchers involved in research projects, providing guidance on research methodology, data analysis, and publication strategies.
Collaborate with educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to identify research priorities and develop research proposals aligned with the research centre's mission.
Collect, analyse, and interpret data using quantitative and qualitative research methods, ensuring rigorous and methodologically sound approaches.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences and professional meetings to contribute to the academic discourse on computing education.
The person we are looking for will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:
A PhD in computing education or a closely related field
Experience of independent research, and a track record of high -quality publications in computing education research
Experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods
Experience of research with educators and in schools
Proven communication skills and the ability to present their research at the appropriate national and international forums and technical and non- technical audiences.
Proven organisational skills, with the ability to manage their own workload and work to deadlines.
Experience of writing for a range of audiences
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong motivation to work in interdisciplinary environments
Experience of engagement with policymakers and other educational stakeholders, including the media.
In addition, to be considered for the Senior Research Associate position, you should have:
Substantial postdoctoral research experience in computing education research
Experience of mentoring/supervising students or junior researchers
Proven leadership skills
A track record of obtaining funding for research
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first instance.
