Job description
This post is funded by the Leo Foundation to study the developmental basis for anatomical variations in wound repair and skin disease susceptibility. This collaborative and interdisciplinary project brings together three research groups and combines developmental biology, genetics and epigenetics, and cell biology. The successful candidate will study tissue and cells, make use of in vitro and in vivo models of wound repair and scarring in order to answer our research questions.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. cell/molecular/developmental biology, biochemistry, genetics). Experience in microscopy and image analysis, bioinformatics, in vivo models and/or stem cell biology would be advantageous. The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term fixed-term contract until October 2024.
This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.
Key responsibilities
- The candidate will plan and carry out experimental work, devise strategies for further development and advancement of the project, and will be involved in the data analysis and writing manuscripts.
- Conduct research in an ethical and accurate manner.
- Analyse and interpret research data. Be able to support all scientific conclusions drawn by appropriate record and note keeping.
- Prepare data for inclusion in manuscripts and grant applications.
- Prepare and present research findings orally and in writing.
- Stay abreast of technical and experimental developments in the field.
- Cooperate and share expertise with all members of the research team.
- Be involved in the training and supervision of laboratory students.
- Facilitate collaboration and networking to support the work of the team.
- Carry out tasks that may require the learning of new skills. Training will be provided whenever the study requires the post-holder to acquire specific technical expertise.
- Be committed to your own personal career development.
- Balance (with help) the competing pressures of research and administrative demands.
- Be aware of the risks in the work environment and the potential impact on you and others.

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
