The role will be held within School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Science. The School has a multidisciplinary research portfolio that spans the entire cancer patient journey in the Comprehensive Cancer Centre and focuses on a Molecule to Medicine strategy in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS). IPS laboratory-based research is located in the Franklin Wilkins Building on the Waterloo Campus and focuses on innovation in drug discovery and drug delivery technologies.


About the role

This is a project funded by UKRI and Innovate UK. The project received an extension of 5 months to allow the collaboration with Medicines Discovery Catapult. In this project King’s College London collaborates with Apeikon Therapeutics and Pharmidex to deliver a novel technology that aims to deliver safe and efficient brain cancer treatments. King’s is looking to recruit a scientist that will work about half a year in developing novel activatable nanoparticles for brain tumour treatment.  This is a post for a scientist with chemical biology background.

The researcher will be responsible for the following:

  • Synthesis of liposomes containing drugs
  • Full characterisation with all state of the art analytical techniques,   MRI assessment and relaxometry
  • Liposomal formulations
  • Analysis of formulations
  • Drug loading
  • Formulation stability
  • Contribute to in vivo pharmacokinetics and biodistribution in animal cancer models (brain tumours)

The job will be in the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Science in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an fixed term contract until 30th September 2024.


About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Experience in Physical Chemistry
  • Experience in Analytical techniques
  • Complex Formulation skills
  • Knowledge of bioimaging
  • Knowledge of in vivo cancer drug development
  • Desirable criteria

  • Holding a Home office personal license
  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Focused Ultrasound
  • Reporting in project progress meetings with Innovate UK and Industry
  • * Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
