Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate in Energy Innovation, Economics and Policy to support a research project funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (USA). The three-year project is entitled 'Designing Public Institutions for Commercializing New Clean Energy Technologies' and is focused on identifying and classifying institutional characteristics or models, of public programs effective at clean energy technology commercialization in the United States.
This project is joint between the Center for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG) at the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, and the Energy & Environment Policy Lab at the University of Berkeley's Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. The Cambridge PI is Professor Laura Diaz Anadon, Professor of Climate Change Policy at the University of Cambridge, Fellow at C-EENRG and Research Associate at the Belfer Center of Harvard University and the UC Berkeley PI is Professor Jonas Meckling, Director of the Policy Lab and Climate Fellow at Harvard Business School.
The overall objective of the project is to ask three main questions: 1) How does the institutional design of US programs for clean energy technology commercialization vary? 2) What are the commercialization outcomes across firms supported by different institutions, and how are institutional characteristics associated with these commercialization outcomes? 3) How do some institutional designs lead to greater commercialization success than others?
The Cambridge Research Associate will work with the other project members at Berkeley and will focus, with the Cambridge PI on gathering innovation outcomes and conducting econometric analysis, among other topics. Experience with building and analysing datasets and econometrics is essential.
The Research Associate appointment is fixed-term for 24 months (two years), with a 6 month probation period. Directed by Prof. Anadon, the Research Associate will take a central role in the analysis.
