As part of an exciting partnership between University of Nottingham, University of Warwick and Lubrizol we are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic chemist/chemical engineer for a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow post within the research groups of Dr Anabel Lanterna and Dr Karen Robertson based in the School of Chemistry and in the Faculty of Engineering, respectively, at the University Park Campus, University of Nottingham. This is a highly challenging project in the translation of heterogeneous photocatalysis from batch to flow technologies including self-optimization of processes using computer automation and requires excellence in contemporary practical skills, preferably demonstrated by your previous publication record. The project will focus on the design of flow reactors compatible with heterogeneous photocatalysts and will aim to overcome current challenges faced by Lubrizol in the development of new sustainable approaches to the production of speciality chemicals.
Candidates should have experience of preparing high quality supporting data for publications. The successful candidate will carry out the following duties:
- Undertake the design of new flow reactors compatible with heterogeneous photocatalysts and the development of photocatalytic processes in flow using in situ analysis for exploring reaction kinetics as directed by Dr Anabel Lanterna and Dr Karen Robertson.
- Prepare ‘journal ready’ manuscript and high-quality supporting information (spectroscopic data, etc.) for publications resulting from the project.
- Provide metric data on the sustainability performance of the reactions developed in the project as a matter of routine.
Candidates must:
- Hold a PhD (or close to completion ) in chemistry. or a closely related discipline (e.g. chemical engineering).
- Show demonstrated excellence and productivity in developing integrated systems for (catalytic) reaction screening, monitoring and optimisation processes; synthetic chemistry; materials chemistry; and/or reactor design.
- Have excellent organisational and good communication and team working skills.
It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with researchers at the University of Warwick and Lubrizol and will have an opportunity to undertake a secondment at one or both partner institutions.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours),, fixed-term post for 12 months, from 1st April 2024. Arrangements for job share may be considered.
