This is an excellent opportunity for a talented and motivated researcher to join the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham as Postdoctoral Researcher to work within the project “Gravel barrier coasts” (GBCoasts), funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The project aims to significantly improve the understanding and modelling of gravel barrier systems to support more sustainable coastal management by increasing resilience and reducing the vulnerability of coasts to climate change.

The successful candidate will join the research group of Prof. Nicholas Dodd and Dr. Riccardo Briganti, which is specialised in numerical modelling of hydro and morphodynamical processes in the coastal zone.

The work within GBCoasts will focus on the numerical simulation of future wave climates and their propagation inshore to simulate the future evolution of gravel barrier coasts.

Candidates should hold or be shortly due to obtain a PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical, numerate subject. They should also have extensive knowledge of coastal physical processes, and experience in scientific programming. Knowledge and experience of wave propagation models such as Delft3D-Wave, SWAN, or equivalent packages is highly desirable.

This is a full-time role (36.25 hours) and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for two years. Arrangements for job share may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Nicholas Dodd ([email protected]) or Riccardo Briganti ([email protected]). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
