Salary:  £30,487 to £45,585 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £33966 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the above post based in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at Jubilee Campus, Nottingham. This post will complement and strengthen research related activities within the Advanced Manufacturing Research group on Jubilee Campus at the University of Nottingham. The group carries out world-leading research on innovative manufacturing processes. 

This post will focus on advancing and automating electrochemical methods for surface inspection and correction. The candidate will investigate and help to design innovative optical surface characterisation processes and deliver an EPSRC Sustainable Manufacturing project [EP/W018942/1] to reduce our dependency on hydrofluoric acid etching. The post will involve use of advanced electrochemical manufacturing technologies, as well as developing modern microstructural inspection methods including 2D and 3D grain reconstructions to advance the state-of-the-art in manufacturing. A good understanding of materials engineering and materials characterisation is required.

The successful candidate will join the Advanced Manufacturing Research group in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and be expected to contribute high quality research suitable for publication in high-impact academic journals. In addition, the candidate should have the ability to work with industrial and academic partners and have an excellent level of written and spoken communication.

Candidates must possess a PhD in an Engineering or physical sciences with expertise in surface engineering, materials science, characterisation, chemistry discipline (or be near completion).

The post is available from 1st February 2024 and will be offered on a fixed-term basis until 30th June 2025. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours per week). Arrangements for job share may be considered.
