Our stunning waterfront campuses and multicultural community make us a desirable workplace for colleagues from around the world. Our reward and benefits, and ways of working enable those who join us to have enriching careers, matched by an excellent work-life balance.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to join Swansea University on a project being led by Dr Gemma Morgan and Ella Rabaiotti (Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy) in the School of Social Sciences. The project is funded by the St David’s Medical Trust in memory of the late Dr Bob Russell-Jones who was honoured with an OBE for his medical work with prisoners in HMP Swansea. Dr Bob was incredibly well respected by those who knew and worked with him, in particular, the prisoners he made time for and listened to when most had not felt heard before. This mixed-methods research seeks to develop Dr Bob’s legacy by listening to and gathering views from former prisoners in Swansea, to generate new and insightful data that will be used to develop better-informed specialist healthcare provision for the physical health needs of men involved in the criminal justice system (CJS) in Swansea.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Gemma Morgan and Ella Rabaiotti, overseeing the day-to-day running of the project. The project utilises a mixed methods approach and the successful candidate will conduct research with men on probation as well as healthcare professionals in the Swansea area.  The role will involve a combination of remote desk-based work and occasional visits to the Swansea Probation Unit for data collection. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to research outputs.

If you are a motivated and proactive individual who can engage with marginalised groups, with the relevant skills and qualifications, this is a great opportunity to join this research project and contribute to its success.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

The University is committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity in all its practices and activities. We aim to establish an inclusive environment and welcome diverse applications from the following protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality, ethnic and national origin), religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation.

We have an under-representation of men in the area of research and would particularly welcome applications from men for this position. We also have an under representation of individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds and would encourage applications from these groups. Appointments will always be made on merit.
