Background

The Past, Present and Future of America’s Commitment to the Middle East is a research project that aims to understand the drivers of policy U.S. towards the Middle East from 1980 to 2020. In particular, it examines how domestic constraints have shaped the process of strategic adjustment, exploring the role played by public opinion, electoral politics, congressional pressures and civil-military relations in the development and execution of military strategy and defence policies.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist the principal investigator in carrying out research for this project by preparing surveys of related literature and supporting the conduct of archival research and elite interviews.

Person Specification

The successful candidate would have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. International Relations or History), with Strong knowledge of contemporary debates and themes in U.S. foreign policy and grand strategy.
