An exciting opportunity has arisen for an early career researcher with public health training to join a world-renowned research team – the Environmental Health Group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The post holder will support ongoing studies on water, sanitation, and hygiene with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, including the Hygiene Behaviour Change Lab (BC Lab), a collaboration between researchers at LSHTM’s Environmental Health Group and researchers at Centers for Infectious Disease Research, Zambia. The BC Lab focuses on testing practical solutions to improving hygiene behaviours in high burden settings, such as Zambia. The programme focuses on three primary work packages: i) enabling technologies for hand hygiene; ii) practical approaches to changing hygiene behaviours; iii) addressing complementary food hygiene through novel interventions. This post and the BC Lab are funded by an unrestricted dontation to LSHTM from Reckitt PLC. 

The post holder will support the work of the BC Lab, providing technical support, research, and learning to global partners. Specifically, the post holder will support all aspects of the research process and provide direct support to researchers at LSHTM and CIDRZ. The post holder will play an active role in coordinating field data collection actives, data management, data analysis, and the preparation of research outputs for publication and public dissemination. The successful applicant will have an MSc degree in a relevant area including environmental or public health engineering, environmental or health sciences, epidemiology, either awarded or imminent or equivalent training, prior experience in the collection, management and analysis of quantitative data and prior research experience in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and experience or training with Stata or R statistical packages, should demonstrate excellent communication and organization skills, prior experience in WASH research, preferably in partnership with organizations in the Global South, and prior contributions to written research output (as manuscripts for publication in peer-review journals, policy briefs, etc.). The post is fixed-term for 6 months and full-time. Salary is on the Academic Grade 5 scale in the range £38,282 to £43,947 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London but will require regular travel to Zambia.
