In this programme of work, we would like to investigate if synthetic cannabinoids and/or alteration in amino acids (methionine, leucine, tryptophan) has the same beneficial effects on diabetic kidney as it does on whole body metabolism. Furthermore, we would like to investigate in detail, the effects that methionine and leucine restriction have on the aged kidney.
We would like to study the responses in isolated kidney slices (human and mouse), animal models of diabetic nephropathy and kidney damage and associated alterations in cell signalling and metabolomics/lipidomics. Strong background and knowledge of kidney physiology in diabetes, kidney slice preparation and testing and home office licence approvals for working with models of diabetic nephropathy as well as handling/working with cannabionids are essential. Evidence of first author publications in this field are also essential.
We are seeking a well-motivated individual with published evidence of working with models of diabetic nephropathy and cannabinoids. Evidenced experience in kidney slice and animal diabetic nephropathy models is essential. Home office licence for working with cannabinoids and models of diabetic nephropathy is essential. Experience in other metabolic testing and metabolomics/lipidomics is desirable.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 salary scale, £31,396 - £34,980 per annum, pro rata.
Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Mirela Delibegovic ([email protected] ).
