The post is up to 20 hours per week for a fixed term of 10 weeks.

This post is designed to assist the academic leads Professor Eddie Bruce-Jones (SOAS) and Professor Tao Leigh Goffe (Hunter College, New York) of the AHRC/NEH-funded project ‘Towards an Integrated Colonial Archive’ to compile and catalogue research on British colonial indentureship.

About the role

The role involves:

  • Conducting library and digital research related to the British colonial indentureship period
  • Organising and filing copies of select photographic and audio files
  • Liaising with project stakeholders and partners, including libraries, individual owners of select artefacts
  • Assisting in planning launch event and panel event

As the role covers a very short period of time, the candidate must be available for the entire three-month duration of the project, including for a weekly project briefing.    

Skills and experience

Candidates will have:

  • Masters degree in a subject in the Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences
  • Experience doing library research
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience working on the subjects of British colonialism, slavery or indenture, Afro-Asian diasporas, or other related aspects of diaspora studies
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite of programmes
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
