Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge?  Do you have a background in structural biology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 75 universities in the world.  We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities.  Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

The laboratory of Dr Qian Wu is interested in understanding the basic mechanism of human DNA damage response (DDR) network in molecular details. We are also developing chemical and protein tools that enable us to control and regulate the DNA repair pathways in cancer cells. This post will support the structural biology aspects of research projects lead by PI, Postdoc and PhD students. It will focus on the structural data collection and processing on key proteins involved in DNA damage response pathways. This post will have local access to excellent research facilities especially for structural biology and research computing. Our state-of-the-art Electron Microscopy facility in Astbury Biostructure Laboratory hosts two Titan Krios microscopes (with F4/selectris and F4/K2 detectors) and three other Transmission electron microscopies. We will support your career development through tailored research trainings and mentorship.

For this role, you should have a first degree/Masters in Biochemistry or a closely allied discipline. You should also have experience in structural biology using cryo-EM as the main method, with experience in cryo-EM grid preparation, data collection, 3D reconstruction and structure model building.

What we offer in return
