Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised Research Assistant to join the Faculty of Economics, University of Cambridge. Our research is focused on conducting, in the first instance, a landscape study of the field of religion and economic development. The project is led by Professor Sriya Iyer under the Social Consequences of Religion Initiative (SCORE), funded by the Templeton Religion Trust. SCORE is a multi-decade, multi-national and multi-pronged effort to evaluate the effects of religious belief, behaviour and institutions on crucial domains of human life.

We are looking for a highly independent Research Assistant with a track record of timely project delivery, strong communication skills and an excellent work ethic. The Research Assistant will be involved in preliminary drafting of a White Paper on religion and economic development, and will work under the supervision of Professor Iyer. Candidates are expected to have a PhD, or be close to obtaining one, in economics or related disciplines.

Candidates should have experience of working with large quantitative datasets and will be involved in helping set up a database of research articles on this topic, as well as conducting a meta-analysis of the research.

Successful applicants will become an integral and valued member of a multidisciplinary group and will also have to liaise with members of an international Advisory Board for this project, a Research Grant Coordinator based in Cambridge, and other academic members of SCORE. Responsibilities of the role include helping conduct a large literature review, analysing the findings, helping draft the White Paper, and conducting a meta-analysis of the findings. Some interest in the field of the economics of religion is desirable; and strong statistical and quantitative skills are essential for this post.
