The School of Biosciences is led by an ambitious research and development strategy within the College of Health & Life Sciences. We are now seeking to build upon and develop our established research strengths and wish to appoint a new senior colleague to contribute to the research, impact, teaching profile and leadership within the School of Biosciences at Aston University. As a successful School we offer a friendly, supportive, and vibrant community to enable world-leading research.

We are currently hiring for one position to either fill a Readership position or a Senior Lecturer position. Applicants must be able to evidence an established independent research programme and should include securing significant external research funding coupled with publications in high-ranking, peer-reviewed journals. For a Readership position, applicants must additionally be able to evidence a strong ongoing funding pipeline and a research programme that is internationally excellent. For a Senior Lecturer position, your research profile must be recognised at least at a national level.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who can demonstrate research excellence focused on the molecular and cell biology of health and disease with a view to translating outcomes into novel therapeutic approaches. Applicants with a focus on Immunology, Stem cells and Regenerative medicine are particularly encouraged to apply. An additional focus on the biology of membranes and their components in these settings is highly desirable. All applicants must demonstrate an alignment with our existing research programmes and ideally be able to strengthen our research through their addition to our team.

Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a history of effective teaching and an enthusiasm for flexible teaching across the range of programmes (UG: Biochemistry, Biological and Biomedical Sciences; PG: MSc Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine; Biosciences MRes). Experience of teaching in Immunology, Stem Cells, and Regenerative medicine and/or Cell Signalling/Endocrinology would be advantageous.

Any application must be able to demonstrate your necessary teamwork skills to foster collaboration with existing Biosciences colleagues and to build links both within the University and externally, including the aptitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development. You should clearly state how your appointment will build further critical mass within the School and support the University mission through high quality, exploitable research that is accessible for business and has a positive impact on society.

Potential applicants may wish to contact the Head of Biosciences, Professor Andrew Devitt ([email protected] ) and the Director of Research, Professor Corinne Spickett ([email protected] ) for informal discussion about the post before applying.
