About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Director of Education, who will hold a substantive post as Reader in Mathematics (T&S) in the School. The Director of Education has three key roles:

  • Lead on maximising the quality of our educational offering, including both student satisfaction and student outcomes,
  • Have operational responsibility for the running of taught programmes,
  • Serve as the principal point of contact and coordination between the School and the Faculty/University in matters relating to taught programmes and student experience.

The DoE liaises with and coordinates the work of staff with operational responsibility for running taught programmes with the aims of enhancing and developing, as appropriate: innovations in teaching and learning and programme delivery; academic standards and quality in teaching and assessment; high standards of information quality; student recruitment and marketing; innovative programme development (including joint programmes); efficiency of programme delivery; appropriate costing and pricing of programmes; use of external advice and standards; high standards of student support; widening participation, outreach and recruitment initiatives

About You

As Reader in Mathematics (T&S) the successful candidate will make substantial contributions to student education and experience through curriculum development and the delivery of teaching activities in the subject area of Mathematical Sciences. They will continue to develop their standing in teaching and pedagogical activities at a national/international level and will take on leadership and administration roles to ensure the overall smooth-running of the School and will develop and mentor more junior staff.

 About the School

The School is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, which comprises of five schools and two institutes. The Faculty’s student population has grown in recent years, both within the UK and overseas, and its research profile has strengthened considerably.

 The School has large and popular undergraduate and graduate programmes, and aims to continue to expand its research profile as well as its study programmes across both UG and PGT. This position will be based in the Centre for Data Science, Statistics and Probability. Other Centres include the Centre for Combinatorics, Algebra & Number Theory, the Centre for Geometry, Analysis and Gravitation, the Centre for Dynamical Systems, Statistical Physics and Complex Systems, and the Centre for Mathematical Education.

 The School comprises 85 academic staff and associate lecturers, 16 research assistants and 14 members of professional services staff. The School is home to around 80 PhD students, and approximately 1,000 undergraduates and 100 master level students.
