The School of Advanced Study

A nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence in the promotion and facilitation of research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. It comprises eight internationally renowned research institutes as well as centres in Digital Humanities and Public Engagement. It has four nationally and internationally recognised specialist research libraries. 

The Role

Professor of Law and the Humanities, Institute of Advanced Legal Studies

The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) is seeking a senior academic to lead its academic engagement in the area of law and the humanities, and to develop collaborative relationships and networks with scholars, policy-makers and practitioners in the UK and internationally. The post-holder will prepare submissions for major grants and continue to produce internationally excellent research as part of this.

The post-holder will be a key member of the Institute’s leadership team, developing research-related strategy and contributing to the intellectual life of IALS.

This post will also have responsibility for the Institute’s research degree programme and will work with colleagues to provide support and training for all IALS research students.

The successful candidate will be an internationally-recognised scholar in the field of law and the humanities and have experience of management and leadership in an academic role.

The salary for the successful candidate will be assigned to band (1-4) on the Professorial scale as part of the recruitment process and consideration will be given to current salary when determining remuneration.

The University currently operates a Hybrid Working framework involving a mix of working remotely and in the office. Typically, the majority of employees will be able to agree to work remotely for up to 60% of their working week, role dependent, however will be required to attend on specific days for training or team meetings.
