Design at Manchester School of Art is renowned for its' international and world-class research in Design Driven Innovation, Design for Health and Wellbeing, Regenerative Design, and the expansive fields of Textile and Craft based material practices, alongside its' award-winning pedagogy in collaborative Design practice.

Our research and teaching builds on our extensive heritage and connections to a wide range of creative industries which has enabled us to become one of the leading providers of design education nationally, and our research and education are consistently highly ranked in subject league tables. By virtue of this, we are well placed to provide unique opportunities for collaborative co-creation across our global network of educational partners, research associations and industry professionals.
Building upon our outstanding performance in REF2021 , the department is looking to bolster its' research capacity and now seeks an ambitious Professor in Craft to lead and contribute to our future research ambitions.
The role
The role of Professor is one of the highest academic distinctions conferred by the University and post holders are expected to have an international reputation and have made a sustained, significant and original impact to knowledge in their particular field, and to contribute and operate at the highest levels of seniority.
The ideal candidate will have significant standing in one of our thematic strengths with a proven track record of grant capture, high-quality publications and/or practice-based outputs. A practice-led research focus related to our thematic areas is desirable, such as Craft/Textile material heritage/ futures; Craft and Wellbeing; Craft and Innovation; Craft and Community, or similar. They will also offer a substantial contribution to the department's research environment, working with our practice-led research groups to provide mentorship to mid and early career researchers and support to our vibrant doctoral community.
Candidates should also have teaching experience in at least one of the following areas of Textiles, Craft, Product Design, Illustration, Interior or Graphic Design and be able to contribute to the overall strategic leadership and management of the department.
