Vacancy Overview
Fixed term position for four years.
WMG is looking to recruit an experienced Principal Chassis Engineer to work in Body in White and chassis design and development, to take technical responsibility for the delivery of projects delivering highly innovative research and outcomes to our industrial partners.
You will have extensive industrial experience of body and chassis design/development, with particular focus on lightweight / high stiffness structures and suspension elements, with additional experience in ride / handling / braking.
You will have the ability to work in collaborative projects and be able to identify key areas of innovation and research, as well as the ability correctly prioritise a broad range of requests from many customers, both internal and external and ensure safe operation.
Job Description
Job Purpose
To provide technical leadership in research and development activities in the field of Body in White and chassis design and development, in order to successfully deliver the aims projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic
To define the Body/chassis strategy and architecture of the product demonstrators, liaising with the senior project leaders and partners to agree on content.
To actively participate in high-level decision making for the research direction of the project as part of strategic planning reviews with the Chief Engineer and other relevant personnel.
Technical
To provide technical leadership of body and chassis design and development, including BIW, frame, suspension, electrical systems and body panel components, leading to the successful and timely delivery of outputs from the TVS project. This includes effective: planning, monitoring, use of resources, analysis and presentation of results to meet project targets.
To represent WMG as a credible authority on vehicle and/or motorcycle chassis design and development to a wide range of current and future collaborative partners.
Project Leadership
To translate the project deliverables into a successful plan of work through the management of the team, to deliver within the project budget and timescale.
To generate research ideas and liaison with PI to secure a stable research income funding stream.
To ensure that the research and industrial collaborative activities within the TVS project offers the most appropriate solutions for WMG and the industrial partners.
Communication
To disseminate project outputs through presentations, seminars, conferences, papers etc to a wide audience, as appropriate.

Essential Criteria 1
Honours Degree or equivalent in relevant subject, e.g. Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Product engineering or Automotive Engineering (a)
Essential Criteria 2
PhD in a relevant field, or equivalent industrial experience (a) (c)
Essential Criteria 3
Extensive industrial experience of body and chassis design/development, primarily focused in lightweight / high stiffness structures and suspension elements, with additional experience in ride / handling / braking (a) (c)

Experience of senior roles within multi-partner research and/or development projects (a) (c)
Essential Criteria 5
Experience of identifying and adopting advanced engineering projects (a) (c)

Experience of day-to-day management of staff as part of a research project and the ability to provide technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and researchers (a) (c)
