We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy to be a part of the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging at Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences.
You will carry out development of magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) using a parallel transmit-enabled ultra-high field (7T) MRI. Specifically, you will develop and validate novel approaches to mitigate artefacts and motion in dynamic (functional and diffusion) MRSI pulse sequences. This could include using cutting edge 7T (parallel transmit) hardware to develop novel artefact removal techniques and motion correction, or developing novel approaches to signal generation and localisation. You will report to Dr William Clarke and the post holder will be a member of the WIN/FMRIB Physics Group.
The work form part of a Wellcome Fellowship project run by Dr Clarke. The post holder will be responsible for their own research project within this research programme. The project aims to develop a robust acquisition and reconstruction platform for 7T functional MRSI and diffusion MRSI. The project will integrate with new custom analysis techniques, developed in the group, as part of an existing collaboration with WIN’s Analysis Group. The post holder will also provide guidance and supervision to less experienced members of the research group, including junior postdocs, collaborators, and PhD and project students.
Essential selection criteria
• A doctoral degree (PhD or DPhil) in chemistry, physics, engineering or other relevant discipline. Post-qualification research experience (Grade 8)
• Demonstrated knowledge of MRI physics, particularly that relevant to MRI or MRS sequence design
• Expertise in software programming using, for example, C++, MATLAB, or Python
• Strong publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field
• Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research projects and methodologies
• Ability to independently plan and manage a research project, including a research budget
Desirable selection criteria
• Experience in MRI pulse sequence development
• Understanding of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and spectroscopic imaging
• Experience in human MR imaging and analysis
• Experience with developing open-science tools and software packages
• Experience of supervising staff
• Experience of managing a research project and budget
• Experience of making grant applications
Please see the below 'Job Description' for further details on the project, responsibilities, and selection criteria, as well as further information about the university and how to apply.
This post is full-time and fixed term until 3 years.
Only applications received before Friday 21st June 2024 will be considered.
Interviews are expected to be held as soon as possible thereafter.
