The post

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The successful applicant will work in the group of Prof Stefano Pagliara and will contribute to the international project Effective rapid diagnostics and treatment of antimicrobial resistant bacteria (ERADIAMR), please see https://www.jpiamr.eu/projects/eradiamr/ for full details. The overarching aim of ERADIAMR is to develop a novel rapid diagnostic platform to detect antimicrobial resistant bacteria and predict the optimal antibiotic drug in order to tackle antimicrobial resistance that causes a yearly death toll of 5 million people.

This project is funded by the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance and includes world-leading clinicians and a diagnostics start-up company. The successful applicant will have extensive expertise in microbial diagnostics, microfluidics, microscopy and/or image analysis.

During this project, the successful candidate will develop and implement a novel microfluidics-based diagnostic platform to rapidly detect resistant bacteria and optimise antibiotic doses in collaboration with postdoctoral research fellows at our partner institutions, please see https://www.jpiamr.eu/projects/eradiamr/ .

The successful applicant will carry out testing of existing and new antimicrobial compounds against clinical isolates of ESKAPE pathogens using microbiology assays, flow cytometry and microfluidics-based time-lapse microscopy.
