The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the project of Dr Vicki Gold to investigate the lifecycle of a filamentous phage using a combination of biochemistry, electron cryo-microscopy (cryoEM) and single-cell microfluidics. This Leverhulme Trust funded post is available from 1 May 2023 to 30 April 2027.
The post will include:
- Bacterial cell culture, cloning and protein purification;
- Fluorescent tagging of proteins and imaging by fluorescence microscopy and microfluidics;
- Sample preparation for electron microscopy (negative stain and cryo);
- High-resolution data collection;
- Image processing and structural determination;
- 3D model building.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD Biochemistry/Biological Sciences or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in Biochemistry/Biological Sciences and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies.
The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be expected to be motivated and demonstrate good knowledge of the topic, possess excellent problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative spirit, combined with an ability to think carefully about their research. Experience of electron-cryo microscopy and image processing would be a strong advantage.
