) at the Department of Biology of the University of Oxford is offering a Postdoctoral Research Associate position for an initial tenure of 2 years, with additional extensions possible for up to 3.5 years in total.


The post holder will join a highly dynamic, collaborative research group at the new Department of Biology (

https://www.biology.ox.ac.uk

), under the supervision of Assoc  Prof Rob Salguero-Gómez, as well as co-supervised by Prof Andy Hector (University of Oxford) and Dr Iain Stott (University of Lincoln). The post holder will join the on-going NERC Pushing the Frontiers “Integrating and predicting responses of natural systems to disturbances”. The post holder will work closely with another Postdoctoral Research Associate already in post, who is developing mathematical approaches to integrate the responses of individuals to disturbances scaling up to populations and communities.


The advertised position will apply said framework to existing long-term demographic datasets (

e.g.

, the COMADRE, COMPADRE, PADRINO databases), and explore responses of individual plants to mechanical and chemical (fertilization) disturbances as part of DRAGNet (

). This post will be in charge of the fieldwork that takes place in our DRAGNet node at Wytham Woods (

https://www.wythamwoods.ox.ac.uk/home

), but also lead the collection of data (via classical field methods and hyperspectral drone automatisation) across multiple nodes of the network in the UK and mainland Europe. The successful applicant will hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience in ecological modelling, population, and community ecology, and/or ecological monitoring.
