Overview

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a full-time post-doctoral research associate to undertake research in coronary anatomical modelling and computational fluid dynamic analysis at Cardiovascular Device Hub Queen Mary University London and Department of Mechanical Engineering University College London. This post is based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and at the Department of Mechanical Engineering University College London and is available from the 15/01/2024 for 24 months. The funding for this post comes from a successful MRC grant application that aims to examine the implications of the local hemodynamic forces on stent failure. The objectives of the study are:

  • To develop a computational method to fast and accurately reconstruct the three dimensional (3D) geometry of stented coronary arteries from intravascular images (optical coherence tomography) and angiography data, taking into account a priori knowledge of stent architecture in different stent types. The method will then need to be implemented in a user-friendly platform in MATLAB/Python.
  • Use this platform to reconstruct the vessel geometry and assess the flow patterns in 40 stented segments that were thrombosed and caused events and in 80 stented segments that remained quiescent and identify haemodynamic predictors of stent thrombosis.
  • The fellow will also be involved in preparation of further grant applications that will be submitted in established - high profile funding bodies including MRC, NIHR, BHF or Welcome Trust and will be encouraged to participate in the other ongoing research activities of the department, by guiding and teaching junior fellows (e.g. UG/MSc/PhD students) and involved in publications.

    About You

The appointed fellow should have experience in research and has a PhD and skills in programing, image processing and computational fluid dynamic analysis. He/should be competent in data management and should has have organizational skills. Previous clinical research experience, teaching skills experience and some basic knowledge in cardiology are desirable.

    About the School/Department/Institute/Project
