Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant to join a highly motivated medicinal chemistry team working under the direct supervision of Professors Steve Davies and Angela Russell. The project is funded by OxStem Oncology, the first stand-alone company to be formed under the OxStem umbrella (www.oxstem.co.uk). OxStem is a revolutionary spin-out company from the University of Oxford, founded by Professor Steve Davies, Professor Dame Kay Davies and Professor Angela Russell, which recently raised a record-breaking £16.9M in its initial funding round. The company is a developer of cell programming therapies with a unique approach to regenerative medicine, aiming to develop small molecules that can activate repair mechanisms that already exist within the body. OxStem is leading the field into a new era of small molecule-driven stem and stem-like cell reprogramming that will be transformative for healthcare.
OxStem Oncology aims to identify new classes of drug candidates that will differentiate 'cancer stem-like cells' (CSLCs) to more benign states that will improve clinical outcomes and overcome resistance/relapse. The team will focus initially on Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and Myelodysplastic Syndromes with a view to expanding to other conditions over time. This is an extraordinary opportunity to work with world leading researchers and contribute to the development of innovative new therapies for areas of significant unmet medical need.
This project is a collaboration between the Departments of Chemistry, Pharmacology, Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Radcliffe Department of Medicine and UCL including Professor Sten Eirik Jacobsen, Professor Paresh Vyas, Dr Petter Woll, Professor Thomas Milne and Professor Tariq Enver.
The post is funded by OxStem Oncology and are available immediately for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for a further 24 months. The successful candidate will be expert in synthetic organic chemistry and/or will have experience in medicinal chemistry, drug discovery/development, and screening.
Candidates must have an organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or chemical biology PhD or will have submitted a thesis in one of these subjects prior to taking up the appointments.
For an informal discussion about the post, contact Professor Angela Russell on: firstname.lastname@example.org .
