Overview
About the Role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on the project "Optimising CO2 Mineralization: From Atomistic Detail to Reactor Design" under the joint supervision of Dr Gregory Chass and Dr Devis Di Tommaso in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London (UK).
About You
The ideal candidate should possess a PhD in Physical Chemistry or a related field and demonstrate the ability to work independently, effectively, and collaboratively as part of a team. Prior experience with advanced characterization techniques, such as neutron scattering, terahertz spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, nanoimaging, and Raman, is desirable. A strong interest in, or knowledge of, cementitious materials, crystal growth, and geochemistry is highly desirable, as is experience hands-on with managing and optimising related industrial processes at bulk-scales.
About the School
The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences consists of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Chemistry. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The School is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to over 530 undergraduate students, 70 postgraduate taught students, and 130 teaching and research staff. Our research is highly collaborative, working with colleagues across all three faculties and supported by partnerships with industry, NHS and other stakeholders.
Dr. Gregory Chass and Dr. Devis Di Tommaso lead active research groups in SPCS. Both are members of the Queen Mary’s Materials Research Institute, which connects a diverse range of academics with a shared interest in materials research. Dr. Di Tommaso is also Co-Director of the Thomas Young Centre for the Theory and Simulation of Simulation. The focus of their research is the development of methods for CO2 utilization.

Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
