About the Role

Applications are invited for a 12 month post-doctoral position to study the association between platelet age and platelet function relevant to thrombotic risk and disease progression. The successful applicant will employ a range of experimental approaches to study the roles of platelets of different ages in experimental animals, healthy human volunteers and patients with cardiovascular and related diseases. They will plan and carry out experimental work, devise strategies for further development and advancement of the project, as well as being involved in compiling the data, and assisting in the writing of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications.

About You

You will be hard-working, highly motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively within a team, and across both the University and Trust. You will have experience of working with isolated platelets in standard assays coupled with a good knowledge and understanding of the cardiovascular system and cardiovascular diseases. Experience with flow cytometry and cell imaging would also be beneficial as these will be central aspects of the experimental work you will conduct. You will also have good analytical and presentations skills.  

About the Institute

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel campus in London. It is full-time and on a fixed term 12-month contract. A start date as soon as possible but is negotiable depending on the candidate’s current employment status. Salary will be at Grade 4 (between £40,223-£42,405), inclusive of London Allowance (depending on experience).
