Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Molecular Biology

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Metherell group in the Centre for Endocrinology at the William Harvey Research Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. Through worldwide collaborations the Metherell laboratory has identified many gene defects responsible for adrenal insufficiency in humans. The successful applicant will work on unravelling novel molecular mechanisms underlying gene defects in NNT and SGPL1, the latest genes implicated in this disorder. The responsibilities will include; generation and manipulation of knockdown/out mammalian cell lines, generation and interpretation of whole exome and RNAseq data, histopathology and immunohistochemistry in mouse adrenals and other tissues, lipidomic analysis of adrenals and interpretation of the results.

Essential requirements for this post include a PhD and undergraduate degree in relevant biological or biochemical subjects, significant research experience in molecular biology techniques and an appropriate publication record. Experience in the field of endocrinology and research experience in bioinformatics and/or animal work would be advantageous. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a highly interdisciplinary team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.

The post is a full time fixed term position for three years. Starting salary will be in the range £36,064.00 - £42,431.00 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus 4 College closure days, flexible working hours, defined benefit pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
